The Food Quality and Safety major was established in January 2008. In 2013, it was selected as a key construction major in Jiangsu Province. In 2020, it was included in the "Double First-Class" program of the Ministry of Education as a national first-class undergraduate major construction point. In 2021, it was approved as a brand major in Jiangsu Province. In 2022, it successfully passed the engineering education professional accreditation of the Ministry of Education (validity period: January 2023 - December 2028). This department has 30 full-time teachers, including 6 professors, 18 associate professors and 6 lecturers. The proportion of teachers with a doctoral degree is 100%, and 70% of them have studied abroad for more than one year at prestigious overseas universities. The teaching staff includes members of the Ministry of Education's Teaching Guidance Committee, the China Engineering Education Professional Accreditation Association Committee, Jiangsu Province Distinguished Professors, Blue and Young Project Discipline Leaders, Jiangsu Province "333 Project" Mid-aged and Young Academic and Technical Leaders, Jiangsu Province "Six Talents Peak" High-level Talents, Jiangsu Province Outstanding Youth, "Xiangjiang Scholars", Zhenjiang City "Moral Model Teachers", "Touching Jiangda" figures, "Jiangsu University's Top Ten Young Teachers", and "Advanced Individuals in the All-round Education" and other honorary titles. In recent years, they have presided over more than 40 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, published over 800 SCI academic papers, obtained more than 100 national invention patents, and won more than 40 provincial and ministerial-level teaching and research awards.
The Food Quality and Safety major is based on the first-level discipline of "Food Science and Engineering" doctoral program of Jiangsu University. It closely follows the national strategic demands such as "Healthy China 2030", "Focusing on People's Health", and "Rural Revitalization", and adheres to the school's educational feature of "agriculture within industry, strengthening agriculture through industry". With the construction of "National First-Class Major" and "Engineering Education Professional Accreditation" as the driving force, it upholds the principle of moral education and "all-round education", and takes "excellence in quality inspection, proficiency in safety management, and proficiency in quality control" as its professional characteristics. It actively explores teaching reforms and continuously strengthens the professional connotation construction, achieving phased progress and development. In the past three years, the overall construction level of this major has consistently ranked among the top in the country. In 2021, it ranked 6th in the "Soft China University Major Ranking", and in 2022 and 2023, it ranked 7th.
This major is based in Jiangsu, serves the Yangtze River Delta, and radiates across the country. It focuses on the national development strategies of "Healthy China 2030" and "Rural Revitalization", and targets the key industries of food processing and manufacturing. It seizes the demands of the food industry in the Yangtze River Delta, aiming to cultivate innovative professionals with an international perspective who can adapt to the modern food industry and meet the strategic needs of the country such as the "Grand Food View", food safety, rural revitalization, energy conservation and emission reduction, and nutrition and health. In the future, they will be able to engage in various aspects of work related to the food industry, including production, circulation, product research and development, engineering design, production management, quality control, product sales, inspection and quarantine, market supervision and management, education and teaching, scientific research, and technical services, as high-level engineering and technical talents.
